Theresa Garnero, APRN, BC-ADM, MSN, CDE is a regular contributor to our website, with her column on diabetes education, DIABeducation™, and a monthly cartoon, Islets of Humor™.
Theresa holds a Bachelors and Masters degree in Nursing. She has board certification in Advanced Diabetes Management.
Theresa Garnero, APRN, BC-ADM, MSN, CDE is the clinical nurse manager of Center for Diabetes Services at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco, California. She is an advanced practice registered nurse, board certified in advanced diabetes management, has a master of science in nursing degree, and is a certified diabetes educator.
Garnero was selected as the 2004-2005 National
Diabetes Educator of the Year and won the Allene Van Son Award for best education tool in using diabetes cartoons to promote diabetes self-management. She is an internationally-published cartoonist, author, and illustrator of
DIABETease, a lighter look at the serious subject of diabetes. Read her

She is the past president of the California Central Coast chapter of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. Garnero has 20 years experience as a nurse. She lectures nationwide about humor and health care, resides in San Francisco, California.
Theresa also has a very special talent. Helping people find humor in the diabetic condition through cartoons. An internationally published cartoonist, Theresa received her first rejection letter from Walt Disney at age 8. Undaunted, she has had her cartoons published in a variety of venues including Diabetes Interview.

DIABETease: a lighter look at the serious subject of diabetes. This 60-page book presents tips on how to control the disease throughout the 50 color cartoons and resource/definition lists, in an easy-to-read, humorous and validating format.
