Defeat Diabetes® Programs and ServicesDefeat Diabetes Foundation conducts a variety of programs each year to promote awareness, prevention, early detection and self-management of diabetes and pre-diabetes.
The Foundation maintains a website as a source of information for “pre-diabetics” and diabetics. It contains over 4500 pages of information including self-management tips, latest news on diabetes and health, nutrition and fitness information and more.
Defeat Diabetes Foundation provides a free on-line monthly newsletter, E-Lerts™ featuring important information for diabetics including: links to the latest research, nutrition and fitness information, recipes, guest columnists and more. The KIDD™ Project provides free Defeat Diabetes® Screening Test brochures to school children, their families and school staff. This program has provided over 3.2 million brochures to more than 5,000 schools nationally. The DAN Project (Diabetes Awareness Now) is an Awareness Program targeting young adults. It is in memory of Dan Kerner. The DAN Project has developed two, a 30 second and a 60 second, PSAs (Public Service Announcement) stressing the importance of early detection of diabetes.
Defeat Diabetes Foundation has a direct mail program providing information to the general public including the Defeat Diabetes® Screening Test, Warning Signs and Harsh Realities brochure. The Martial Arts Defeat Diabetes® Community Action Project (MADDCAP™): is a health related program designed to propel the efforts of martial arts citizen-teachers across the United States to educate children and their community about diabetes. MADDCAP™ introduces community based awareness and prevention projects to foster a healthier local community. The Mr. Diabetes® Wake Up and Walk® Tour, (completed December 2008), walked over 10,000 miles through thirty-four states and countless communities spreading the message about the importance of diabetes awareness. He speaks to school assemblies, civic groups and one-on-one. The Media Outreach campaign informs and educates the press of the dangers of diabetes Advocacy Program -- Mr. Diabetes® testifies before City Councils, State Legislatures and Governors to bring awareness of the diabetic condition to governments and their health agencies.
