Mayer Music Announces Benefit ConcertConcert on April 27, 2003 To Benefit Defeat Diabetes Foundation Chicago, IL – Recent events have caused a shift in giving practices to nonprofit organizations and Mayer Music is stepping up to the plate by providing a new forum for donating to nonprofits through the development of a series of concerts to benefit nonprofit organizations. For the concert on April 27, 2003 at 5:00 P.M. at Rory’s Music Café located at 701 W. Lake Street, Addison, IL James Ullrich will now be joined by Chicago band Passion Trip. Tickets: $5 in advance or $10 at the door the day of the event. 100% of the proceeds from the show benefit the Defeat Diabetes Foundation a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, www.defeatdiabetes.org, dedicated to informing, preventing and educating the public about the dangers of diabetes and its complications. The April 27th concert applauds the efforts of Defeat Diabetes Foundation Executive Director, Andy Mandell – Mr. Diabetes®, who is walking the 10,000+ mile perimeter of the US to raise awareness about diabetes. Mr. Diabetes® has already completed 3,100 miles of his journey and will be arriving in Chicago during the winter of 2004. The incidence of diabetes has reached epidemic proportions in the United States. Over 22 million people have the disease and 2,200 are being diagnosed daily. Astonishingly, nearly one-half of all diabetics don’t know they have this potentially debilitating disease and another 17+ million people are “pre-diabetics” who aren’t aware that they are in danger of developing the disease. The complications from diabetes can be severe. In fact, diabetes is the leading cause of adult blindness in the United States and can also lead to amputations, strokes, kidney disease, heart attacks and death. In fact, diabetes was responsible for 200,000 deaths in the US last year alone. We hope the public will come out to support this worthy endeavor. It’s a win-win situation for the nonprofit to do its important work, the talented musicians seeking a forum and the public who get to see them.
