Total Calories, Not Carbs or Protein, Key to Weight LossPosted: Tuesday, June 28, 2011The key to successful weight loss, a critical component of type 2 diabetes prevention and management, is adherence to a diet in everyday life. But despite the controversies such as low-carb vs. low fat, it is not clear what the ideal weight loss diet for people with diabetes would look like.
This study (783-P) explored whether a low-fat, high-protein diet would lead to greater weight loss than a low-fat, high-carb diet in people with type 2 diabetes. And what were the results?
Over a two-year period, both groups struggled to meet their goals, but both diets ultimately led to modest weight loss and reduced waist circumference. In the end, it's total caloric intake that matters most.
