Antibiotic Can Cause Hypoglycemia

Posted: Monday, April 05, 2004

Biaxin, (clarithromycin) commonly used antibiotic may lead to dangerously low blood glucose (sugar) levels in certain people.
Even if the new medication is not known to affect blood glucose levels, it would be wise to check more frequently for the first several days you’re taking any new medication. And any time you have an infection, are sick in bed, or are vomiting, check your blood glucose and urine ketones at least every two to four hours.
