FDA Issues Safety Alert for Avandia
Those were the headlines recently, but what does it mean?

Avandia is an insulin sensitizer. The risk factors for all insulin sensitizers (including Actos) are heart attacks, cardiovascular death, fluid retention, bone fractures, weight increase, negative effect on lipids and possible unknown effects on genes.

Patients using any of the insulin sensitizers should talk to their health care provider to determine the most appropriate course of action. Patients should not stop taking any prescribed medications without first discussing the issue with their health care provider.

Using any drug increases your risk for complications. But, as the studies have shown, increasing your physical activity can provide the same benefits and even greater benefits in reducing your risk factors for the complications of diabetes and other diseases. Read FDA Alert

Now for the garden maintenance....
I hope you’ve  been encouraged to start a vegetable garden, of any size.  Given the proper amount of rain and sunshine, the seedlings should be popping through the soil and beginning a life cycle of producing vegetables.
Now for the garden maintenance which will determine whether you will have a good harvest.  It’s a topic nobody likes to deal with, but if you don’t it will destroy all your efforts for a vegetable garden.

Short-Term Risk for Stroke Is Doubled in Newly Diagnosed Type 2's
Cardiovascular risk factors are suboptimally treated in diabetes, possibly because of the impression that there is a long delay between diagnosis and the development of macrovascular complications such as stroke.
From the results, it was concluded that,  the risk of stroke is high within 5 years of treatment for type 2 diabetes and more than double the rate for the general population. This further supports the need for aggressive early cardiovascular risk factor management in type 2 diabetes. -- Stroke. 2007 May 3
