Eat Right With Color!
That's this year's theme for National Nutrition Month. We know healthy eating is your best defense against diabetes. But did you know each color of a fruit or vegetable brings different, and essential, nutritional values? An added benefit to vibrant color is a more enticing plate!
Also in this month's E-Lerts™ newsletter:
*Defeat Diabetes® Diabetes Camps & Database - It's not too early to think about summer camp for your child with diabetes. Defeat Diabetes Foundation has a nationwide database of diabetes camps.*
Remember to make your dinner plate a rainbow of colors. Your health will thank you.
Good Health, Lisa M. Rasolt Program Director
The Mission of Defeat Diabetes Foundation is to save children, adults and their families from the pain of diabetes by preventing and/or managing its complications through a comprehensive online diabetes information center and innovative community action programs.

Diabetes Friendly Recipes
March 2011
The Agriculture and Health and Human Services departments issued the latest dietary guidelines on January 31, 2011, instructing those who are 51 and older, African Americans, or those who have hypertension, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease to reduce daily sodium intake to 1,500 milligrams, or about a half a teaspoon of salt, a day.
Defeat Diabetes Foundation's database of recipes are lower in sodium and lists nutritional content. Again, we are proud to be ahead of the "mainstream".
