Diabetes and Kidney Disease
Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney disease in the United States. About 30 percent of patients with Type 1 diabetes and 10 to 40 percent of those with Type 2 diabetes will suffer from kidney failure. There are currently about 180,000 people living with kidney failure as a result of diabetes.
Early detection and treatment of chronic kidney disease are the keys to keeping kidney disease from progressing to kidney failure. Some simple tests can be done to detect early kidney disease.

Awareness + Action = Prevention®
The Mission of Defeat Diabetes Foundation is the prevention, early identification and self-management of the global epidemic, diabetes. We work with individual and organizations worldwide through our awareness, interactive and assistance programs.
This generation of children is on the fast track to live a shorter, less healthy life span than their parents.
According to Connie Diekman, Director of University Nutrition at Washington University in St. Louis, "Nutrition education needs to start in prenatal classes and move through the entire education system…Many kids -- and their parents -- simply do not know what they ought to be eating."
The
Kid Initiative to Defeat Diabetes® Curriculum is designed to fill this gap in information about diabetes and obesity and its relationship to nutrition and fitness.
