FDA Approves Cialis for Once Daily Use for the Treatment of ED

Eli Lilly and Company announced that the FDA has approved Cialis(R) (tadalafil) for once daily use (2.5 mg and 5 mg), an oral medication taken once per day to treat erectile dysfunction (ED). When Cialis for once daily use is taken daily, men can attempt sexual activity at anytime between doses for 24 hours instead of 36 hours for the larger dose.

Bayer Diabetes Care notified healthcare professionals and consumers of a voluntary market recall of test strips (sensors) used exclusively with the Contour TS Blood Glucose Meter. The product was recalled because test strips from specific lots could result in blood glucose readings with a positive bias that could demonstrate 5 - 17% higher test results.

The FDA has decided to allow the diabetes drug rosiglitazone (Avandia, GlaxoSmithKline) to stay on the market with increased warnings about the risk of cardiovascular events, while further studies are conducted to investigate the issue. A myocardial infarction warning will be added to the black box warning.

Number of Uninsured U.S. Residents Increases to 47M in 2006

The number of uninsured U.S. residents rose by 5% and is now up 2.2 million in 2006 to 47 million, up from 44.8 million in 2005, the largest increase in four years, even as poverty fell and household incomes rose, according to data released by the Census Bureau.
