Cinnamon A Natural Version Of Insulin
Posted: Thursday, April 22, 2004
Cinnamon might be a natural -- and inexpensive -- treatment for diabetes because of its molecular similarity to insulin, scientists report."Cinnamon itself has insulin-like activity and also can potentiate the activity of insulin," said Don Graves of UCSB. Insulin-Producing Cells Found In Fat, Liver & Bone Marrow
Posted: Friday, February 27, 2004
Researchers at Houston's Baylor College of Medicine have found insulin-producing cells in the fat, liver and bone marrow of diabetic mice. The source of the insulin-producing cells to be bone marrow, which has been identified as the origin of many different kinds of tissues in recent years. Only a brief three-day period of high blood glucose was sufficient to nudge the cells outside the pancreas to produce insulin.

The prevalence of hypoglycemia is generally considered to be lower in patients with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes compared with type 1 diabetes. However, increasing emphasis on strict glycaemic control has led to earlier introduction of insulin and more intensive regimens for type 2 diabetics in recent years, which may increase the risk of hypoglycemia.
