Diabetes is most common in poorest neighborhoods. The study, by New York City Controller William Thompson, broke down the neighborhoods that report the most cases. But the report also looked at which areas' residents suffer the worst complications, such as stroke, heart attack and kidney failure.

Homocysteine is a destructive amino acid created by the body as it breaks down protein. Too much Homocysteine is directly linked to a higher risk of coronary heart disease, stroke and peripheral vascular disease.

Western” diets consisting of red and processed meats, refined grains, sweets and desserts may be associated with a greater risk of stroke. The women who ate the "worst" Western diet had a 58 percent higher risk of stroke than women who ate the healthiest diets.

A 15 Minute Blood Test Provides Stroke Diagnosis Allowing Rapid Treatment

A quick and cheap blood test could soon help doctors tell if a patient is having a stroke and help them get the right treatment as soon as possible. Future versions might even be able to distinguish between different kinds of strokes.
