The study, which followed nearly 2,000 postmenopausal women with diabetes for 15 years, found that those who took heavy doses of vitamin C supplements -- 300 milligrams (mg) a day or more -- were roughly twice as likely to die of heart disease or stroke compared with women who took no supplemental C.

A team at Johns Hopkins University shows a link between elevated blood sugar of more than 150 milligrams per deciliter and complications. They look at previous evidence covering nearly 10,000 people with diabetes and learned that every one per cent rise in blood sugar was linked to an 18 per cent increase in heart disease complications.
