Besides not eating such things, the study found that one might be able to prevent this effect by taking antioxidant supplements along with the unhealthy meal.

Diabetes Medication May Promote Eye Health

The diabetes medication rosiglitazone has been associated with a reduction in the likelihood of developing the eye disease called proliferative diabetic retinopathy. A study published in the June issue of Archives of Ophthalmology also found that diabetes patients using the drug were less likely to have reductions in visual acuity (or sharpness).

Hemoglobin A1C (A1C) levels are strongly associated with subsequent mortality in both men and women without a previous diabetes diagnosis, according to the results of the largest study to date of A1C levels and subsequent mortality risk, reported in the June issue of Diabetes Care. In those without known diabetes at baseline, a 1% increase in A1C level was associated with a 16% increase in mortality rate.

A study examining the effects of hyperglycemia on type 2 diabetes patients after acute myocardial infarction (AMI), the Hyperglycemia and Its Effect After Acute Myocardial Infarction on Cardiovascular Outcomes in Patients With Type 2 Diabetes (HEART2D) study, found no cardiovascular benefits from tightly controlling postprandial variations in blood glucose.
