Diabetes increases the risk of dementia, especially vascular dementia, in the elderly, according to new data from the Kungsholmen Project, a community-based longitudinal study on aging and dementia.
The hazard ratios for dementia and vascular dementia were even higher in patients taking oral antidiabetic agents.
