Adults on a reduced-calorie diet who ate 3-4 servings of dairy foods each day lost an average of 24 pounds.

The study indicates that 3-4 daily servings of milk, cheese or yogurt help people lose more weight by helping them burn more fat in the abdominal region, when compared to those who just cut calories or took calcium supplements.

Cinnamon might be a natural -- and inexpensive -- treatment for diabetes because of its molecular similarity to insulin, scientists report."Cinnamon itself has insulin-like activity and also can potentiate the activity of insulin," said Don Graves of UCSB. "The latter could be quite important in treating those with type II diabetes. Cinnamon has a bio-active component that we believe has the potential to prevent or overcome diabetes."

"Walnuts differ from all other nuts because of their high content of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), a plant-based omega-3 fatty acid, which may provide additional anti-atherogenic properties."
