Diabetic Child Dies While Parents Pray

Madeleine Neumann, an 11 year old type 1 diabetic, died March 23rd due to lack of treatment for her condition. Her parents, Dale and Leilani Neumann, viewed their daughters worsening condition as "a test of faith," and instead of getting her medical help, let her die while they prayed. The parents have been charged with second-degree reckless homicide and face up to 25 years in prison.

The FDA has warned that more cases of lung cancers have been reported in patients treated with the inhaled insulin Exubera than in controls in clinical trials. So with this new information it looks like the end of research on inhaled insulins.

FDA Approves First Insulin Analog for Use in Insulin Pumps by Children, Adolescents

The FDA has approved insulin aspart (rDNA origin) injection (NovoLog) for continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion (CSII) by external insulin pump in pediatric patients aged 4 to 18 years. It is the first and only insulin analog approved for this use.
