This review summarizes the cardiovascular results of large outcomes trials in diabetes and presents new evidence on the role of hyperglycemia, with particular emphasis on postprandial hyperglycemia, in adverse cardiovascular outcomes in patients with Type 2 diabetes.

As adding metformin to insulin therapy has been advocated in Type 1 diabetes, researchers at the Universities of Dundee and Aberdeen, U.K., conducted a systematic review of published clinical trials and clinical trial databases to assess the effects on HbA1c, weight, insulin-dose requirement and adverse effects.

Transition Therapeutics announces results of a Phase 2 study of TT-223 (GLP-1 Cpd + Gastrin) in Type 2 diabetes patients. The results show that beta-cells can possibly be generated and/or restored. After a 10 week trial the drug was stopped and 6 months later, the A1c had dropped by 1.13 points.
