Global Study Shows Nine Factors That Identify 90% Of Heart Attack Risk

The vast majority of heart attacks can be predicted by nine easily measurable factors, that are the same in every region and ethnic group worldwide. The study found that the two most important risk factors are cigarette smoking and an abnormal ratio of blood lipids (Apolipoprotein B/Apolipoprotein A-1), which together predicted two-thirds of the global risk of heart attack.

TV in Childhood Tied to Poor Health Later

The amount of television watched during childhood and adolescence is directly related to the risk of high cholesterol levels, diabetes, smoking, poor fitness, and being overweight in adulthood.
In terms of population-attributable fractions, the authors estimate that 17% of overweight, 15% of poor fitness, 15% of elevated cholesterol, and 17% of current smoking in 26-year-olds could be explained by watching more than 2 hours per day of television during childhood and adolescence.

"We have to stand up and take charge of our lifestyles," Thompson told the crowd. "It takes small steps. You don't have to go out and run a marathon. You've got to use moderation."

When do you think your blood sugars are higher? Before you eat or after you eat. Everyone answered, after you eat!

It is amazing to see the look on a patients face when they realize that they are telling me diabetes causes the most damage when their blood sugars are high after they eat, and yet they never check it then……………..
Most reply that their doctors never explained it to them.

One of the first things we discussed was the A1c test and the results. Asked them if they understood what the A1c number meant? Over 98% could not answer the question.The Quality of Life Number also known as the A1c tells them how well they are controlling their diabetes. The A1c tells them their risk for getting all the complications from diabetes, and it also tells if we are more susceptible to every other disease.

The program focused on each patient receiving 20 minutes of diabetes education by appointment. In addition each patient learned how to use an alternate site meter, were given a free A1c test and explained reasons for starting type 2 patients on insulin.
