Diabetes Studies, Clinical Trials and Surveys

Research facilities, drug manufacturers and universities are conducting studies, clinical trials and surveys for new drugs, behavioral habits and other investigational information with the goal of improving our health. They are seeking individuals to participate in these studies and trials. Defeat Diabetes Foundation does not endorse any clinical trial, but does believe studies and trials are very valuable and necessary.

If you are thinking about volunteering for a trial, you should first understand the study's goals and the details of its design. Ask your physician for help on this. Also be sure to get the answers to these questions:
  • What evidence supports the use of the experimental drug?
  • What are the potential risks, no matter how slim?
  • Will I receive any routine medical care?
  • What compensation is offered if I become ill or die because of the medication?
  • Will there be any out-of-pocket expenses?
  • Will my health insurance cover expenses related to the trial? ConsumerReportsonHealth.org: Marvin M. Lipman, MD
