What is an employer matching gift? Many employers encourage their employees to donate to non-profit organizations by matching the employees' donations. When an employee donates $10, the employer will also donate $10 to the same organization. The employer's donation, conditioned upon the employees' donation is called an employer matching gift. If you work for an employer that matches employees' donations, you should encourage your co-workers to donate because your employer will match their donation dollar-for-dollar, to help Defeat Diabetes. If you don't see your employer's name on the list, ask the Human Resources department of your employer and see if they match employees' donations to charities. What's the procedure of getting employer matching gift? Different employers have different procedures. Usually, you get a matching gift request form from your HR department, fill out your information, and send it to us when you make your donation. We fill out our portion of the form and send it to the employer for processing. Alternatively, your employer may ask you to submit a request online and then they will contact us. After the employer determines eligibility, they send their matching gift checks to us. How do I make sure that you receive the employer matching gift? Follow the procedures set by your employer. If your employer requires a paper form, send us the properly completed matching gift request form when you make your donation to us. If you donated online, send us the form separately by mail. We cannot claim the employer matching gift without a signed matching gift request form from you.
