Low Fat Cornbread

Cornmeal counts as a whole grain and this low calorie, low fat version is perfect for any meal plan. Quick to Prepare (under 30 minutes); Low Calorie; Low Fat.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 egg whites
  • 1 cup skim milk
  • ¼ cup unsweetened applesauce
  1. In a bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  2. In another bowl, combine egg whites, milk and applesauce.
  3. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened.
  4. Pour into a 9 in. square baking pan coated with nonstick cooking spray.
  5. Bake at 400 for 15-20 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean.
  6. Serve warm.
