Fundraising

Non-profit organizations exist to fulfill a need in the community that isn’t being met, to provide something of value to their community. In exchange they are looking for something of value back, one of the hardest is obtaining money so they can continue their good work.

Although fundraising is one of the most important volunteer activities, it is the one that all non-profits have a hard time asking folks to do. Let’s face it – fundraising is usually an activity that people either LOVE or HATE.

We’ve tried to identify a number of different ways to help you raise funds for Defeat Diabetes Foundation. It could be with the development of a special event or by doing what you love to do anyway – running, cycling, walking, and skiing events are just a few.

Firstgiving

You can request people to "sponsor" you in the event to raise funds for an organization. We’ve made it easy for you to raise funds for DDF with a partnership with Firstgiving which allows you to create your own online page, invitation, and thank you letter. Then you just send to your email list and no more collecting pledges!

Teams for local charity walking events can be formed at your workplace. You can find support and encouragement for your fitness goals and fundraising efforts when you join a team. If you don't know of a team to join, invite a few friends to join you. Short events require little or no training since the average person can walk 6 miles with no prior conditioning.

Business Owners or Self-Employed

If you own a business or are self-employed, there are many ways you can help support Defeat Diabetes Foundation:

Let your customers know, for a designated period of time, a portion of sales will be donated to Defeat Diabetes Foundation.
You may sell individual items and the proceeds go to DDF.
You may hold a raffle with the proceeds going to DDF.* *check with your state's applicable laws.
If you are an artisan, you may consider making something special for diabetics (i.e. a piece of jewelry creatively alerting of diabetic status.)

E-Donations
Built into our website is a mechanism for making a secure online donation to Defeat Diabetes Foundation. You could (after making your own donation, of course) recommend that others do the same by sending them an email.

Ebay Sellers

eBay Giving Works is the dedicated program for charity listings on eBay, enabling you to list items on eBay and donate part or all of the final sale price to your favorite nonprofit organizations.

eBay Giving Works listings tend to sell at higher final prices, because buyers are more willing to purchase and often pay more for items that benefit a nonprofit. You can enhance buyer trust and loyalty by aligning with a cause, and you will receive a receipt for your tax-deductible donations.

It's easy! Select a certified organization from the nonprofit directory ( Defeat Diabetes Foundation) and designate your donation percentage (10%-100% of the final sale price).

Special Events
If you’ve really got the fundraising bug…and some people do, there are a variety of larger special events that can be developed in local communities. Special events are great for non-profit organizations. They provide needed funds for the organization, often generate media coverage, they are fun for the attendees and have the potential to introduce new patrons to the cause.

They are also hard work and require time, commitment and volunteers.

We’ve come up with a few types of special event fundraisers that can be large or small and will appeal to people with broad interests or specialized.
