Defeat Diabetes Foundation Community Speaker

Why this position is important

Nearly one third of the 24 million Americans who have diabetes don’t know it. An additional 57 million are pre-diabetic and at risk of developing the disease. Over one third of all children born after the year 2000 will get diabetes in their lifetime. Yet, Type 2 diabetes can be prevented as much as 95% of the time.

How it will impact your community

You will be providing valuable, potentially lifesaving information, to members of your community and reducing their risk of developing the disease.

Job Description

The Community Speaker will be responsible for conducting speaking engagements about diabetes in your local area at civic organizations, including: Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions Clubs, trade and business groups, senior organizations, boy and girl scouts, clubs, schools, places of worship, etc.

Objectives

Provide life saving information about diabetes, the dangers and its prevention

Goals

3 - 6 speaking engagements in your community annually

 

 

 

 

Duties

Familiarize yourself with diabetes curriculum provided by DDF

Become familiar with three power point presentations and their content. Presentations are 15, 30 and 45 minutes in length.

Present the material in power point presentations to community based organizations and groups.

Conduct presentations as assigned by DDF.

Utilize prepared materials from DDF to offer your speaking services to community organizations.

Responsibilities

Represent Defeat Diabetes Foundation in a professional manner (be prepared, be on time, be clean and neat, etc.)

Report back to DDF on results of presentation

Qualifications

Be comfortable speaking in public and have the ability to speak clearly.

Have reliable transportation

Have a computer and internet access

In order to participate as a community speaker you MUST REGISTER for the program.
