People who already have diabetes can play a crucial role in informing people about the dangers of the disease, the importance of self-management and, if you have it, how to avoid the complications of the disease.

A better informed community is better equipped to make the appropriate lifestyle choices to improve their health.

Job Description

To be available to represent Defeat Diabetes Foundation and people with diabetes for local media interviews, including radio, television and print outlets. 

Objectives

To, accurately, portray the challenges of people with diabetes through the media and other venues.

Goals

  • To promote diabetes awareness
  • To promote diabetes prevention
  • To promote self-management of diabetes for those who have the disease
  • To participate in local media interviews as an interviewee

 

 

 

Duties

  • To be available for local interview opportunities with the media; this may involve travel to a local television or radio station, or being able to talk to an interviewer from a land telephone line, or meeting at a designated location
  • To answer the questions accurately
  • To promote diabetes prevention
  • To promote self-management of diabetes for those who have it

 

Responsibilities

Represent Defeat Diabetes Foundation in a professional manner (be prepared, be on time, be clean and neat, etc.)

Report back to DDF on results of interview

Obtain digital recording, if possible, for archives

Qualifications

  • Must be a person with Type 1 or Type 2 diabetes
  • Your diabetes should be under control (A1C <7.0)
  • Must be knowledgeable about diabetes
  • Must be articulate
  • Must be comfortable speaking in front of the camera and live audiences
  • Must be comfortable speaking about your own personal experience with diabetes
