Defeat Diabetes: New Product: ShotBlocker

        New Product: ShotBlocker

posted 10/13/03

For many of our patients that need to start on insulin, fear of needles is the number one reason why they won’t. I found a product at the recent AAFP conference that helps over come that fear.

It's called ShotBlocker.

Using the gate control theory of pain management, Bionix has developed a device that is placed on the patient's skin and stimulates the surrounding nerves. The nerves respond by 'blocking' the pain signals that would normally be triggered with the injection.

ShotBlocker provides instant anesthesia at the site of the injection by stimulating the skin area, which provides enough sensation to block the pain of the injection. It is a simple, safe and effective way to block the pain from those injections without the use of chemical sprays or anesthetic creams. I could see this device as a sensible way for your patient to overcome their fear of needles.
