Glucose Device OK For Kids
posted 08/28/02
Children can now use a wrist-watch-like glucose monitoring device for diabetes. The Food and Drug Administration has OK'd the device for children, following its March 2001 approval for use by adults. The device detects trends and tracks patterns in glucose levels needed to help patients keep their diabetes under control. The GlucoWatch G2 Biographer extracts fluid through the skin and then measures the glucose in the fluid. The device sounds an alarm if the glucose reaches dangerous levels, alerting patients to a potential problem. More than 150,000 children in the United States have diabetes.
